In order to enhance and protect the page we have set it within a brown frame with mount.

Entitled – Washington – The Capitol
Beneath the picture an inscription reads:
The principal facade looks towards the east, as the city was expected to spread in that direction; thus the Capitol turns its back upon the main part of Washington, and on the other Government buildings. A fine marble terrace, 884ft. long, and approached by two broad flights of steps, has been constructed on the west side of the Capitol, adding great dignity to the view of the building. The dome is surmounted by a figure of Freedom 19 and a half ft. high. This magnificent building stands in a park of about 50 acres, and has cost up to the present time £3,200,000. The door on the west side of the Rotunda beneath the dome leads to the Library of Congress, which contains no fewer than 900,000 volumes. The Hall of Representatives is a plain and business-like apartment, 139ft. long, 93ft. wide, and 36ft. high. It contains desks for 352 members and four delegates.
