The poor pit pony lives and works in the mine practically all of its life. He is a very hard-working animal and can pull a whole train of loaded trucks along the rails that run through the workings.
Lower Picture reads:
Here we see a train of trucks hauled underground by an electric motor, a method that will one day supersede pony traction. It is expeditious and reliable, and in every way desirable.
