Old page which is over 100 years old and in good condition. CE.2842

Set in a brown frame with mount. Also available in either
a gold frame or a black frame, your choice.

Top left Picture reads:
This picture shows the condition of a mine when the roof is
fully supported by timber props and beams. Without these
the roof might fall in at any time.

Top right Picture reads:
Doors are placed between the different workings and galleries to control ventilation. The man in the photograph is a colliery inspector going round to examine the condition of the mine.

Lower Picture reads:
Owing to the depth the temperature in many mines is so high that the men have to work in very few clothes. These miners are digging out the coal 1560 feet under the green fields of Kent, the roof being propped up as they proceed.
