Entitled:
The natural reservoir under London.

London gets about a fifth of its water from Artesian wells.  On the left is a section showing the great well at the Bank of England which draws up water by suction.  On the right is a compressed air pump which consists of two pipes connected at the bottom, if we could see far enough down, by a U-shaped bend.  The water in the chalk gets into these pipes, and compressed air forced down one pipe drives the water up the other.

(This picture shows the Bank of England as it was
when the walls were sunk.)

Text to the reverse.

The page can be purchased unframed for £9.95 including p&p (UK) or £13.45 for all other destinations.
